From Dedication to Designation: The House of Seven Gables and Plant Sumner, 1976

Home ยป Heritage Village 50th Anniversary ยป From Dedication to Designation: The House of Seven Gables and Plant Sumner, 1976

As the nation approached the 1976 Bicentennial, rapid development threatened historic structures across Pinellas County. Through a partnership between the Pinellas County Historical Commission and the Junior League of Clearwater, the House of Seven Gables and the Plantโ€“Sumner House were saved and relocated to Heritage Village, forming the foundation of the countyโ€™s open-air history museum. Now, fifty years later, both buildings meet the criteria for local historic landmark designationโ€”recognizing their historical significance and the ongoing stewardship that preserves them for future generations. The designation ceremony will take place at the House of Seven Gables at Heritage Village, 11909 125th Street, Largo, Florida. Community members and preservation partners are invited to attend and celebrate this milestone in Pinellas County history.
